The beauty of it is, if you launch your own server it can communicate not only with all other Gab servers (including Gab AI Inc’s,) but also with a global network of other servers called the Fediverse.

Let’s simplify what Gab is about to do on July 4th. Gab is becoming an open source social networking protocol that anyone can use to create their own social network that they own and control. You can join Gab’s server, or launch your own. They all connect to one another.

If you create your own Gab server and I follow you from Gab AI Inc’s Server, I will see your content in my feed on the Gab AI Inc server. If you follow me from your server, you’ll see my content on your server’s Home feed too.

There is no central point of failure. If Gab AI Inc’s server is no-platformed or goes offline for whatever reason, the thousands of other Gab Social servers will still be online and working. Gab becomes unstoppable.

There are also dozens of apps on both app stores RIGHT NOW that work with Fediverse projects. Meaning you’ll be able to install them and sign into your Gab account.

Why would creating your own server matter to you? The answer is digital sovereignty and peace of mind. Your own server= your own data. You can’t be banned unless you ban yourself.

Or maybe that’s not interesting to you, but joining a cat photos server would be. One where you can’t be tracked by Facebook and aren’t seeing creepy ads in your feed.
