I can appreciate your disclaimer -- thanks for clarification -- but that same/similar sentiment most definitely comes with condescension in many other instances, hence my reaction.

I prefer to use JavaScript wherever I can because I like its flexibility and unique expressiveness. Plus it feels like more languages these days are changing to adopt JavaScript patterns into their own languages, through syntax or libraries.

I think that
@seldo's point is that were JS not originally implemented as the default language for the web platform, it would not be the language that it is today. So its position contributed to its development, not just its ubiquity. It has become a great language, for reasons. - Još 1 odgovor

Javascript has some quirks, but which language doesn't? I personally appreciate many of the design decisions, despite the contraint to make it "like Java". The one thing I truly wish was different is the weak typing: I would have preferred strong dynamic typing.
