Based on public surveys, there are around 250,000 hate crimes in the US each year. A media outlet could easily pick out a dozen of these on any given year and hype them up like it's a new trend, even if it's not at all.

ah so if some group was to suffer in increase in hate crimes, we'd never be able to detect or report on it? I see what you're saying but truly an unfortunate alternative there
Yeah, I think this is actually much worse than an increase for one or two years. It's actually terrible all the time!
