This tweet is a good example of a trend on here: to get people to not share even basic facts because they go against The Narrative. It's usually framed as "read the room" or "not right now," but the goal is to silence disagreement, no matter how factual. https://twitter.com/abgutman/status/1372308509962944513?s=19 …

My view is that it's okay to report facts and share different opinions, even or especially when it's inconvenient, because I trust that people are smart enough to wade through disagreements and reach their own conclusions. Otherwise, society doesn't really work.

But what are you talking about? There are obviously tons of different hate crimes every year; should we not be concerned about large increases in a specific subgroup?

The question to ask might be: are there actually increases? I haven't asked it up to this point, perhaps I should've? Now I will. I tend to think there have been, but haven't seen any solid numbers.

I always thought the "now is not the time for gun control" was more "don't jump to conclusions, this is a heated moment, lets not let emotions take over". Which AFAIK is the exact thing people pointing to facts are doing.
