The bizarre thing about people on the left doing this is when people on the right do it by, say, arguing that "now is not the time to talk about gun control," everyone on the left understands how nonsensical that is.

My view is that it's okay to report facts and share different opinions, even or especially when it's inconvenient, because I trust that people are smart enough to wade through disagreements and reach their own conclusions. Otherwise, society doesn't really work.

You can't communicate "I don't disagree with this but I'm not fired up about supporting it" on social media without doing lots of contortions. That gives people a really warped perspective of broader opinion!
