There's a lot of reporting about new Covid-19 variants with scary headlines that the text of the article and research don't really support.

A common theme in this reporting is concerns about the variants "evading" immune responses. But then the text of the article, the research, and the researchers' quotes all say that the vaccines are likely still effective. So maybe don't mislead people with your headline or lede!

Is this the part where journalists excuse that behavior by saying they're not responsible for headlines, as if that antiquated division of labor makes any sense to anyone or somehow leaves the general public less uninformed or less misled?
