Great piece by @valeriestrauss, arguing that much of our current debates about schools reopening are trying to simplify what's a genuinely complex problem.https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2021/02/16/distorted-debate-on-reopening-schools/ …

I will say that every time I have reported on this issue, I have approached it at first believing that someone (usually a teachers union) was being unreasonable, only to find the issue is really more complicated than a lot of the takes are letting on.

That's me! I don't want to send my kid back to school right away. I'm not confident his school has the resources to keep everyone safe. I worry about students AND teachers getting sick, etc. etc.

My sister still does not want to send her kids back to school, either. Safety is her biggest concern.

I chose virtual for my child for the full year. I wanted consistency. But now that our district is on the verge of reopening, my friends that chose in-person are panicking bec they chose something they never thought would happen.

Good luck! So many kids went back in my son’s school he’s in DL w/1 teacher 4 36 kids. She typically teaches another grade. She hasn’t figured out how to use technology. His assignments are screenshots of handouts. It wasn’t great b4 but it’s back to last spring levels of bad.

In Atlanta, polling by
@apsupdate a few months ago showed a slight majority favored NOT doing in-person and for people of color, it was overwhelmingly against in-person.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
