I’m writing a draft of a Living Plan for a project here in Shropshire. A plan for living with dementia. And I keep feeling waves of sadness... It’s a profound feeling, doing this. Like the end is approaching... And I’ll never more going aroving. Not true, but a feeling.

I made this point back in 2015. The Alzheimer's Society need to get off the fence regarding whether it wants to make this toothless but aspirational. Whilst not legally enforceable, more effort could be made in imbuing rights consciousness to the non-converted.

We really need to make sure that the 5 rights statements are publicised everywhere, and that people affected use them to demand what they are entitled ot, and what they have a right to expect. Must keep challenging on this.

This is a good test: is this a service professoinals want to deliver, or a service WE want? Co-production...

Sarah Butchard: there is best practice out there, but often it is not happening. The statements need a legal framework behind them to enable people affected to use them.

Catherine Diamond: the statements are a really good summary of the rights that everyone has. Excellent starting point for anyone who feels their rights have been compromised.

What are you going to do drive Dept of Helath and Social Care to meet their commitments? What will you do to use co-production? What will you do in your own organisation?

Keith Oliver Some professionals see co-production as losing control.

keith Oliver... ‘United Against Dementia’ is a great slogan or banner for co-production. The dementia rights statements also provide a rationale for co-production.

We must hold the govt to account to improve support and diagnosis for people living with dementia

If one third of people with cancer died without diagnosis there would be an outcry. Not for dementia?

Funding for research into dementia has doubled in ten years. But very small proportion of diagnosed plwds are imvolved in research and clinical trials.
