Correct! It's been a thing in combustion cars for awhile to enhance the sound of the car but I have not heard of EV automakers implementing it for drivers who miss the sound of "spirited" driving. I didn't know Prius had been doing some trickery for sometime. Thanks for the link!

I know Audi made something for the R8 E-Tron for safety reasons. But it was intentionally synthetic sounding, not trying to replicate combustion engines. Cool video online about the sound design for that.
