I'm a curmudgeon, and I would just like to be able to learn *one* set of shell commands and scripting languages.

oh I know, but unfortunately it's sandboxed, so you can't do a lot of things that having a *nix Kernel would let you do.

I already use Windows Subsystem for Linux as much as I can, just end up running into limitations. And I want a *nix kernel darnit! ;)

My apologies, I was again being snarky/facetious. In my area of work, terminal stuff is common/necessary, so can't get away from them.

Ah, gotcha. Well, then, why do you care what the kernel is? Powershell on linux, or bash on windows, containers across... It's all good. 1/

I really don't. I'm just amused by how often I'll be absent minded when i switch systems and forget to change syntax.

Amen. That makes me wonder, tho...I should look into Powershell and see if I can set up something akin to Bash's aliases.

or, set up a portable bash profile that aliases common windows commands back to their *nix counterparts. Hmm.
