I have four parents, all over the age of 75. Randomly, three of them, in two different cities, got their first dose of COVID vaccine today. My father who has NOT received a vaccine is my parent at highest risk. He is incarcerated.

I work directly with people coming out from incarceration, they are not who you make them out to be. Vaccinating incarcerated people slows the spread, protecting all of us. Targeting where the virus proliferates is just common sense. If you're an alumni, I'd ask for a refund.

What exactly did I make them out to be, beyond their current status as prisoners?

You vaccinate in order of risk because that is the way to minimize deaths and disabilities. I have a problem with the idea that inmate lives ought to be sacrificed to protect people at less risk.
