After seven amazing years in Boston, I am both sad and excited to (finally) be able to officially announce that I'll be returning to my native Australia in 2020 to start a new adventure!

Odd statement, and one that is very easy to verify -- just go to the website and check. I would bet real money that all recent hires have 1st author nature/science/cell papers

Happy Fourth of July, everybody! This is always a great day in the Obama family: a chance to celebrate America—and Malia’s birthday, too. Hope all of you are able to get some time with friends, family, and fireworks.

It's ridiculous that we give a civics test to people applying for citizenship, when many current citizens would fail the same test. And the randomly-chosen questions vary widely in difficulty, so some get much harder tests than others

those large, top-down NIH-administrator driven projects have not produced a single one of the many valuable computational biology tools that we use. We need more R01 funding instead; let the scientists figure out where the needs are greatest, not the admins at NIH

I really dislike messaging along the lines of "Your country has problem X so come work in my country Y". Even worse, "come and work *with me* in country Y, I'll save you!" It discounts and trivializes the substantial challenges that immigrants *in every country* must overcome.

The editors ( ) don't reveal this reviewer's name, but he needs to be outed. No one should get away with this, much less be rewarded as a highly cited scientist. Who is he? 4/4

I am starting this new hashtag. Please retweet if you are in support of @NipsConference changing its name. Looking for ideas on how to wear protest on our sleeves/carry signs throughout the conference. Ideas? We can't let the board get away with this shoddy treatment
