On train to NYC, I finished @Greg_Gerke 's marvelously heartening book See What I See, which, for me, is about the power of art to help us bear our beautiful brokenness; the force of "form fronting for feeling," and the essential gift of human receptivity.

Had a great solo dance party in the living room just now.

Working all afternoon on new translation of Musil's play "Die Schwaermer," once translated as "The Enthusiasts". Am torn between "The Visionaries" & "The Ecstatics". It is a wild and brilliant play, playful and fierce, daring and silly, deep and superficial.

Musil was fiercely critical of Expressionism's tendency to value emotion over ideas. Arnheim too admits that "he could not stand them and their inflated verses".

Same chapter, p.440, on "the General's poet, Arnheim uses words similar to words Musil uses in essays to criticize Expressionism...the image of a dog howling at the moon in particular as a description of the Expressionist poet barking out great emotions.
