/ The ideas really aren't new. But, damn, is 𝕤𝕚𝕞𝕦𝕝𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕪 ideation fucking everywhere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulated_reality_in_fiction …
/ You can talk about Baudrillard and the artificiality of modernity. But, culture & art have taken such concept to such a pervasive extreme that it almost feels like a constructed forgone conclusion. That's gotta induce some weird expectations on what is and is not acceptable.
/ Example: How many people comment / participate in political stories with "LOL, simulation," when the most reasonable response would be, "THIS IS FUCKED UP AND UNACCEPTABLE."
/ I get the LOLSimulation impulse. (I do it too.) It's humor to bleed the pressure on the wildly escalating absurdity of reality. But, it also detrimentally misidentifies the source of the strange: Culture, history, and human nature can build the most Byzantine of environments.
/ ...but we can also at least strive to build better ones.
