But, an ending chapter filled with pain and suffering was a much harder pill to swallow. And, I don't mean mine alone. Loss is so hard. Knowing those left behind would suffer is heavier in a way. Especially for parents who outlive their children (I assumed).

Also, there's no moment of greater punctuated uncertainty. If I was in absolute pain and I was 100% sure there were no interventions left, thats an easy decision. But 99.9%? 80%? Existential crises coupled with physical agony before death bleeds into the fear of no longer living.
