IIRC, I even had it in a Anki deck once and it didn't stick. It's just kinda a bad pattern.
It's really silly because matplotlib was maybe the first python package I used ever bc of doing tons of data visualization in grad school. Now, I'm like, "buhhh why did they do things this way??" I have a gist with like 20 common plotting schemes now.
