I got really big into Skeptical YouTube™ a few years ago, when I realized I was an atheist. Lately, it seems that the popular YooToober skeptics are mostly skeptical of anyone's claim to be doing things for reasons other than self-interest.

In a certain sense, almost all human behavior probably does distill down to self-interest/self-preservation or at least preservation of kin, but I admit it is a narrow view, like being skeptical that anything but quarks exist. Technically probably true, but not really descriptive

Yes, that's the problem. It seems an excellent model when you dialog with yourself but once you realize that most of what you do is just adopted reflex -- and, there are things to do to change which reflexes get adopted -- it's poorly descriptive, lazy, and vapid!

What's really fun is thinking about the notion of free will. I honestly can't think of any mechanism for "Free will" that isn't actually just randomness, since my mind is made of conventional matter and patterned by evolution and my experiences.
