Does anyone in my feed know why a SAMBA client might return [Errno 28] when creating files in a particular subtree even though there is plenty of space and i-nodes, and the users (tried two) have unlimited quotas?

uh okay i'm out of my depth, but does that include the folder path? like is the folder path + 32 hex chars longer than the full filename limit?

No that didn’t include file path. I should have stated this is a new problem. There are a few hundred sibling folders of exactly the same structure that worked fine. (Its maddening.)
