/ Just wanted to give a quick shoutout to @LAFitness for using shady dark patterns (cc: @AGBecerra). When you sign up, you prepay for three months *after* the date you quit. I thought it was weird at the time, but it was the closet gym to me in LA, so okay...

/ My fiancé got a her job acceptance in August. We moved to NoCal in September. It was a busy time. It was hard to make time to quit the gym, but it's $29.99 a month, so I did do so. Or so I thought...

/ You see, you can't just quit LA fitness as if they were a business providing services. You have to SNAIL MAIL THEM A CANCELATION DOCUMENT. Again, to quit, you 1) Login to their website; 2) Download a PDF, 3) Find yourself a stamp, and, 4) Mail them the PDF printout.pic.twitter.com/SHpC014DDo

/ I did that. Then, I moved. It's been a busy few months. I wasn't following that credit card because I quit my job and had 0 expenses on it ever since. Last week I got a fraud notice on it, so I checked the past statements. LA fitness never stopped charging.

/ Benefit of the doubt: Let me email them and explain how a mistake was made, while demanding a refund. After all, they should at least have a log showing 1) I downloaded the quit form and 2) I never went back to the gym after 4 days a week regular (you scan in every time).

/ Their response to my email is below. So, 1) They didn't address my complaint in any way, and 2) They canceled my membership by email, so WHY THE FUCK DID I HAVE TO MAIL SOMETHING?pic.twitter.com/A6rl9A3fOy

/ After getting that email, I was pretty livid. I immediately emailed back, explaining that this wasn't a satisfactory resolution, and telling them I'll be asking my CC company to reverse those charges (and forwarding it to the CA AG). The result:pic.twitter.com/Ks1dfvbzR1
