Is that Steve Pinker in the middle?
It is.
Not really a big shock, Pinker is the polite face of obsessing with genetic predisposition see e.g. https://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/pinker_rose/pinker_rose_p1.html …
Consider transp ppl. They exist. So some genotypes exist that may yield a transhuman. (Maybe all genotypes that aren't fatal pre puberty do)
But on whether a person turns out trans, environment - and here, very specifically it's mostly culture - is the ultimate arbiter.
To get at the genetics, you'd need to study kathoey or fa'afafine or other nonbinary populations that develop their sexuality more freely.
As a biologist, I'm safe to say what #Pinker does re #gender is not #science, it's poking around with a stick in the dark & selling books.
This isn't the best methodological critique of the method Pinker uses, but OK & the most accessible to nonbiologists http://books.wwnorton.com/books/The-Mismeasure-of-Man/ …
My general simplification: A pebble thrown into a mighty River can change its course forever.
