I think there's a significant cohort of US protesters who are protesting the lack of enforcement of capitalist and racist relations. It's not "wants to go to the salon", it's "wants ubiquitous racism back".

Most of the people going to the protests aren't quite ready to write that out on a sign yet, and haircuts are one of the talking points a non zero number of them chose .

I agree, in both cases, smug trivializing of real hardship and destruction of livelihoods, for reasons. In both cases focusing on some aspect in which the sufferer is not bad off in order to discredit every grievance.

There are tons of photos of signs of actual people with signs saying "I want to get a haircut" and videos of at least crowds including those signs spitting on people, starting fights with each other, carrying ARs. It's not a straw man. It's one of the loud talking points.
