"Conservative" isn't so much an ideology, but the weary accumulation of history and experience congealed in relatively heavy priors. It's the rejection of unconstrained adaptability — and a uniform space of socio-political possibilities — manifested in politics.

I like to think about culture as a slow acting PID controller (like your car cruise control.) Culture accumulates past history to direct your future decisions for what to do. A culture that bows instead of hugs seems pretty smart right now, but who knows why bows were chosen.
