Zoom does a good job upgrading / downgrading video quality in response to bandwidth changes but damn — if you are in one on intermittently bad connection the experience is still maddening. Really hope my internet is okay shortly because this is basically my social lifeline now.
I really want to research internet infrastructure after this. I was under the impression that there was so much over-investment (e.g. by google) that there was wild abundance in most non-rural places. But now that I say that out loud, it doesn't seem super plausible.

We had fiber installed in front of our house last fall, but the sales guy I talked to last month said they couldn't connect houses until the lockdown was over. He got some bad info, though, because my neighbor had a line installed last week. I signed up as soon as I heard that.

But for the next couple weeks it's more shitty video calls where I can't speak.
