HARD SAME. there are few exceptions (people I know offline, or very close mutuals) but for the most part I'd prefer to disable them completely.

I'm okay with DMs -- esp those from people who don't want a public convo. But even for them, I sometimes start convos on here then forget them and they notifs get tangled or something than I forget for weeks.

i only use them with very close friends or by specific invitation. Can't fathom how folks with their DMs open to anyone (non-mutuals) can stand it. but, DMing tweets-of-interest to yourself is an alternative to bookmarking them. i like that

Mine are open and I rarely get abuse. Maybe once or twice a month? Plus some of the convos are good. But the interface seems to make me lose some I start and miss some I never did.
