1/ The question I'm struggling with the most for my @ycombinator app is, "why are you a solo founder?"
The honest answer is timing.
I won't and don't want to be one, but the opportunity came up fast, and not making a horrible very long-term mistake means recruitment isn't.

I can limp along with no pay burning my savings for a while longer. I can't pay anyone else though. And, I think the nature of what I'm trying to do plus timing exigency means I do need YC or someone like them as accelerant.

The whole premise of angel/VC money does make me wary. And I don't mean that just in terms of greed or loss of control. The same constraints I talked about yesterday imposed by cloud architectures seem to be imposed by VC/angels. That scares me a bunch.

I think for this particular venture, our interests are aligned well. Or I could be deluding myself and these are famous last words...

is it fair to say YC is a synonym for “external funding”? i guess it really is the fastest track to making yourself money legible, in lieu of a revenue stream

I think it is. Although if they say no, I'll probably be testing the fences in a different way
