I'm not sure this won't have unintended consequences (see this 2006 classic: https://arxiv.org/abs/physics/0609213 …). Simple version is blanket increase in communication between groups -> self-selection of salient interactions -> increased Balkanization -> co-located extreme polarisation.

There were a bunch of papers mid 2000s to 2010s, many in JASSS, attempting to model behaviour in (relatively weak simulated data though), and many showed increases in polarisation, and often showed *weird* effects including pushing people from the centre to the dangerous margins.
