Half-baked take: A side effect of the experiences that accrue with getting older seems to be the expansion of peer perception. Like, having done something before, seeing someone else doing it now makes me think of them as a peer, even if I'm no longer doing the thing.

That sometimes goes wrong when you think you're an unconditional and universal expert — which happens a lot. But it's super useful when you remember how hard the hard thing you're no longer doing was, and how hard it most certainly still is.
