Experts have to walk this tight rope between criticizing ill-supported statements because they can do incredible damage while also managing public perceptions of experts, which mostly means trust.

Anti-mask stuff in all forms spends trust. And trust is crazy expensive. Less expensive than first responders not having them. But home made masks don't factor in that allocation.
