The population of the US when the Constitution was ratified was a bit less than the population of LA today. Socio-political systems are remarkably dynamic, but assuming scale-invariant robustness and health is a fucking wild premise. Ever notice there are no 10,000 ft trees?

I honestly have no grand utopic vision for society. I mostly think the best we can do is muddle following paths taht seem promising, so long as they satisfy our basic humanity. That includes letting the past guide us but... ...very weakly. Now is not then.
