I spent a good portion of my life trying to model complex systems for the purposes of exploiting prediction. It turns out, that's very hard to do at all let alone well. Sometimes, it drives me mad with frustration! But mostly, I think it's such a fantastic gift...

The flip-side of easy predictability is remarkable control. Very predictable systems — those less subject modeling, especially as the time horizon grows — they're also less subject to control. And sclerosis.

I don't mean that nefariously. I mean if you want to change how the world works (hopefully for the better!), the supply of necessary leaps and territories to explore remains unbounded. You actually have to search and fight for it. Isn't that the world you want to live in?
