2/ Spending time trying to understand particular complex systems is a deeply humbling practice. Simple explanations abound! Most turn out to be a wrong though.

3/ Learning to generalize from specifics so you can apply what you learned elsewhere is essential, of course! But mistakenly thinking a surprisingly sufficient rule in one context is sufficient in all of them is just...a form of mysticism.

the fun i see is when you know about these systems over here, then you start learning in a new domain, and connecting all the different knowledges you have to the new domain. anyhting else is hubris.
