Start one of the mini series, not the books chronologically! My favorites are the witches (equal rites is the first one), deaths family (starts with Mort), or the guards series (guards guards is the first). If you like that, read the others in that set!

The witches books are about myths and the magic of ordinary people, the death books deal with concepts like death and time and how to handle them, and the guards books are about how to be a good force in a changing world. So:epic sagas, conceptual adventures, or politics?

Most books are self contained. You don't need to be a discworld expert to read them. This is especially true for The Hogfather. arguably one of the best. Just dive in, the water's fine…

The great thing about Discworld is that the books aren't a chronological series! You can just dip in and out at random, because they ALL work as stand-alones. I'd recommend starting with MONSTROUS REGIMENT or GOING POSTAL

This needs a nice infographic. Surely one of the ultra-fans out there has done one? I’ve only read 3-4 myself.

I’ve found some blog posts on it but it’s just...missing a map?

I started with Men At Arms, and I liked that method. (Sorry for explicitly ignoring your advice.)
