i've seen it referred to as "boomer flu" which is pretty damn grim, but might be accurate.

Politically-speaking I really don't know what happens in that world. The people who generally enjoy excessive representation may suddenly feel as if their votes were restricted.

Simple. Trump declares martial law and cancels the election. I imagine he's already trying to come up with a reason to do that, and an epidemic would suit his needs.
