Fifteen years ago at this time, Dr. Jeffrey Bruce at Columbia Pres had just carefully punched a hole through my sphenoid sinuses to remove a cancerous tumor that was growing out of my clivus and pressing on both my sixth cranial nerve and brain stem.

Thanks to a combination of both my extreme luck and his extreme skill, the tumor — that was far more likely to recur than not — never came back. I never really got used to that expectation. But, I don't think about it much anymore, which is cool.

But fifteen healthy years when you expected only a few not so healthy ones definitely makes you see things a little bit differently. And, even though the last year has been quite shit — both personally and not — I'm damn happy to be here.
