I really have to stop asking people, "what's your loss function?" and just ask, "what does success mean to you?" Talk about shitty communication.
Less about predictive processing, and more about politics. The gist being, politics / ideology is mostly arguments about which loss function to use, but people very rarely make trade-offs explicit, so we're all terminally arguing sideways.

I still think "be kind to each other" should be our highest principle. If any of our beliefs get in the way of that, it's a sign that something has gone awry somewhere in our mental ecosystem. Exemptions where people are not acting in good faith.

Yea, I always come back to that, even if I fail to act accordingly all the time. I think the paradox of tolerance binds far more loosely than people imagine but also that cultural pluralism is easy except for all the pluralism.
