It's super interesting to see this little vids people make "explaining" the algo (non technical explanations), and then forcefully trying to steer my FYP out of some weird content corner I got into by putting my phone down looping some vid by swiping quickly and disengaging

This is fascinating! What's interesting about how TikTok does it is that they've separated your following from their recommendations, but they put just enough of what you follow in their recs that you almost never go to Following (or I don't).

But, by having Following, they create a patina of control for you - or at least make you think you're opting in to randomness/algorithmic recs. Also it's video and owned by the Chinese gov't or something, and is probably watching me right now, so there's that...
