I haven’t seen anyone say bad things about #TypeScript. I am a big fan of Anders Hejlsberg since the glorious times of Turbo Pascal. C# is vastly superior to Java. Every language he touches is great.

I like it a lot! While most JS libs support it, such as React and React Native, its compilation step introduces some build issues for libs that do other forms of build magic, seems tricky to get hybrid web and native apps working with react-native-web and TypeScript...

Hrm good to know.

Reasons I hear (and disagree with) : 1. There's a build step - but every real js app has a build step. 2. Types can be complex - but not understanding your data structures means not understanding your code. 3. If you have tests you don't need it - but who has 100% test cover!

TS also requires extra maintenance, someone need to provide TS type bindings for libraries which can make non breaking changes become breaking changes for you because the type system is checking for the wrong method signatures, even if the code would normally just work.

I also don't think having static types really helps, specially when you are coding web apps that usually rely on different api's that you will need to handle in a much more rigid way. The way I see it, in my experience, it's just not worth it.

I think it's awful because it adds an extra layer of complexity and just feels too much like Java, causing you to write your code in a way that's way more complicated (classic oop, and all the problems that comes with it) than it could be if you were just using vanilla js.
