2/ So you can forge ahead anyway and build a niche product. But, then you have business sustainability issues. And if you're just doing it as OSS/side-project, you have longevity issues, too.

3/ So, if you care about these things and want to build for them, competitive pressures conspire against you. To succeed, you have to create a great product that happens to implement the level of privacy that you believe matters systemically but is irrelevant to your bottom line.

@seanmmcdonald about data trusts? I’m inclined to say you can’t build a business out of privacy and data ownership given the current regulatory environment, but I could see that changing. -

I think the business model will fail if it’s one off. It’s overwhelming. If you were able to provide a total solution package, people would buy it. I have no idea what that would look like. It’s like smart home. People didn’t do it until there was a package with maintenance.

"fog computing" with homomorphic encryption. All of your data lives on a private cloud that exists on your devices. It's all 100% encrypted except when in use. Apple is the only big tech co in a position to deliver this.

1. Someone needs to create a competitor to Facebook. One where the users control their data and access, with a biz model not dependent on data collection. Create an easy port tool to grab you FB pages. 2. Name it MyFace. 3.... 4. Profit
