2/ To get your damn emdash fix in Penguin-mode, enable the compose key. There may be an easier way but I did it by through Gnome Tweaks and mapped to right CTRL (since I never use it.) Now I can do: [RIGHT CTRL] followed by three hyphens and get —!pic.twitter.com/TKSX3RRo2P
the way I’ve done it for years (across various window managers) is with xmodmap—I have “keycode 57 = n N U2013 U2014” in there which maps en dash and em dash to unshifted and shifted AltGr+N I use the same thing for my other common characters missing from US keyboards
I played around with ion as my wm back in the day, but I always wind up coming back to xfce. I’ve been meaning to give a tiling wm another try though...
I liked it because it's well-integrated with gnome.
