Cooled take: Likes as stochastic retweets was a good idea. It has good ambient intimacy properties.

Ooh, I'd love to discuss this more. I've been thinking a lot about asymmetric intimacy, especially with podcasts. I once saw Terry Gross interview Ira Glass, and he spoke about that a little bit; there's something about sound that feels personal.

Just scattered thoughts. 1. It reminds me of the favorite teacher that every kid hoped loved them the best. For the teacher, it's not the same. 2. That kind of asymmetric intimacy can generate situations of exploitation (cults, serial abusers, con artists)

Just throwing this out there, but I think as long as one remains in the role of a teacher/mentor/entertainer, it's totally OK to have that kind of asymmetry, but ethically crossing into friendship or anything romantic/familial requires some restoration of equality of intimacy.

Yea. Sadly we can't tell how twitter actually schedules it, but I think that's a great point. The stochastic likes should mostly be for frequently-interacting mutuals. Otherwise, that asymetry creep is a problem.

I'll have to find this great quote in Still Life with Woodpecker about how one always loves more than the other. My cop out is to use a line from a different Tom Robbins book "I love myself, but it's unrequited"
