DM etiquette is pretty weird in general. But I imagine thirst DMs have to be the most frustrating. Like, I've gotten maybe a handful of explicit ones over the years and each time it's not so much flattering as it's "okay, how do I navigate this?" When it's daily -- wow.

Taught a workshop at a conference & a guy slacked me his critique; basically polled the male instructors so I'd get a good distribution of teaching experience & like it's never happened to any of 'em, but has happened to women they knew.

The critique was also frustrating 'cause it was "why can't you teach this the way the guys taught X" where like I use those same methods when I teach X, but they don't work so well for the thing I was teaching, which was very much not X.

I hate when guys do this and then try to chat me up. Ok Mr. Direct McMessage, give me your elevator pitch as to a) why my post is wrong and b) why I should have coffee with you. Jesus christ. Go find a dog.

I rarely look at my DMs because of the crap that ends up in there, including people (ok, lets be more realistic — men) who appear to be interested in conversation that then migrates into inappropriate comments on their part. I use them to communicate occasionally.
