High school and college kids? Also (not saying it's right) but there is a delicate economic balance. I don't think anyone knows exactly how that would shake out if all wages became livable. Maybe my DQ blizzard now costs $12 and I can't afford to live again? I don't know?

Some of the subtleties here are whether we are talking about a living wage for the wage earner, or earner + dependents. Also, whether living conditions for 1 person are as an independent household. Are extended families and roommate situations normal, or unacceptable compromises?

For example, it may make sense to provide some of the support children need through means other than wages (school lunches, subsidized daycare, SCHIP/Medicaid, tax credits).

In my opinion it's important not to restrict people from freely forming contracts to exchange any amount of money for any amount of labor, including no money at all (volunteering, interning).
