I don’t think that’s the primary explanation. Democrats represent many competing visions about how things *should* be, and are less willing to compromise on many specific points. Rs mostly willing to all back a single vision. Same strategic effects.

Maybe, so long as "vision" is limited to rhetoric. Meanwhile, the history of recent Democratic governance is constant compromise whereas the Republicans just don't. But they can maintain that because their internal factions resonate a lot more.
