I'm currently building my first relational database and I'm trying to convince myself to use a "real" db program/architecture, namely PostgreSQL, rather than just a bunch of R tables with a Shiny app for validated db interactions. Got any silver-bullet reasons?

Mostly robustness if you're writing a service, especially with cloud-managed instances. Otherwise, I'd probably just use a json-lines file ;)

What’s the procedural language like for that? How does it compare to the equivalent for MySQL or Oracle?
