I worked for a decade as an electrical engineer. In my professional opinion, this is wonderful news! You have released magic smoke hidden within. The magic is that you have the opportunity to learn something. The downside is this is usually expensive.

I still have (and use) a hard drive that I used to have in a usb enclosure, which I stopped using after I turned it on one time and smoke started coming out :D
