Brendan's been doing this for a while but I'm not sure I fully appreciated it until yesterday when my Dad said, "FOX and CNN are different worlds and their both full of shit so who has any idea?" Decades of deliberately cultivating distrust has paid off for Fox and the GOP.https://twitter.com/BrendanNyhan/status/1202230396013948928 …

This isn't a revelation, it's anecdote. But seeing it happen to my Dad is some heavy shit. CNN has layers of bullshit as a function of their profit motive and ensuing format, but yea — there is no symmetry here and people reaching for one is the whole damn exploit.

Yea that's a thing. And certainly part of the exploit. But I still think the CNN tune outs are less a function of bullshit and WWE presentations and more a function of obviously disjoint reference points which was this whole rambling thread,https://twitter.com/generativist/status/1201291186159394816 …

💥 (wannabe) Ƀreaker of (the Bad) Loops 💫 @generativist1/ I think PG is wrong. But, I think this take and his previous ones in the same vein illustrate an error that, i) everyone is prone to; ii) no one is trying to solve because it demands thinking 'intersubjectively' (very deliberate usage here), which is real damn hard to do. https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1201164712106434560 …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 1 like
Like my Dad is a lifelong conservative and Fox watcher who things Trump and the entire GOP is fucking demented now. He's been trying to consume other things. But the obvious differences make them inaccessible.
