I keep seeing takes about how this is a smart strategy for converting elederly voters who represent a larger slice of the pie — which okay, yea. But the demotivating alienation it induces for everyone else who must confront their role as mere ballast seems pretty important, too. https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/status/1200882191875465216 …pic.twitter.com/J2fqHGmpWZ

Graph showing 56% of voters in 2016 were 50+, most of whole votes for trump whereas those from 18 to 50 mostly voted for Clinton

Like yea, I’ll vote Uncle Meh. But I’m probably not going to go out of my way to do anything but just that. Source:https://www.people-press.org/2018/08/09/an-examination-of-the-2016-electorate-based-on-validated-voters/ …

The dilemma Dems face is that they need to win some non-empty subset of { Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, etc. } in order to win the electoral college. Generally speaking, the left wing’s dream candidate won’t win enough (if any) of them. So we have to go with Meh.

It sucks, but it’s baked into the rules of the electoral vote allocation plus the geographic distribution of people. Young lefties need to start moving to big cities in red states. Once TX flips the balance shifts and corny old white people are no longer an essential demographic.

By sheer happenstance, I hit the 280-character limit on the nose, twice in a row.
