Idk about you but I think doing so for me leads to insights and real understanding a lot faster. I focus on the right things when reading afterwards. Pretty cheap tuition so I’ve stopped fighting it. (At least, I hope this is true.)

I agree. For me this speaks to how bad the literature can be: fluff, obfuscation & over-selling around an idea that can be hacked out on your own relatively quickly. Once you've made it yourself, you can see through the shitty papers to find the few gems that will challenge you
