I was raised Roman Catholic so I think I always took “religious concerns” in politics more seriously than people not raised similarly because my family acted as a tether, but 2016– has made that increasingly difficult.

The recurring pattern of using religion as an excuse for being horrible to other people throughout history is very meaningful to me, like why doesn't anyone have the courage to say, "I just want to be a horrible human being, and that's on me."
