    "Novelty And Heresy"
"So it's particularly dangerous for an organization or society to have a culture of pouncing on heresy. When you suppress heresies, you don't just prevent people from contradicting the mistaken assumption you're trying to protect. You also suppress any idea that implies indirectly that it's false."
"One piece of quantifiable evidence of the decline in journalism is the word-frequency data showing the NYT's dramatic shift to the left over the past 5 years. You don't shift that fast simply because the truth did. Ergo it must have come at the expense of truth."
David Rozado's NYT word frequency graphs, shared as evidence

Fucked up thing is I agree that searching for heresy's is a generally useful heuristic for both technological *and* cultural exploration. But I find it suspicious how often disruption never applies to their own decades old beliefs.https://dispatches.artifexdeus.com/dear-sam-altman-e3028db79802 …

NOTE: I just realized it makes it seem like his threads were one continuous thread and they are not. The second pair is from some of has recent galaxy braining and the former two are from today. They are separate and the former isn't ostensibly about startup ideas alone.

"Quantifiable" is loaded with a ton of crazy in that tweet. Excuse me now, off to check my block list for no particular reason.

TBH I think I'm prone to using "quantifiable" in a similar bludgeoning and this helps me recognize how vapid it is and how I should be more careful when doing so.

Does PG control for the op-eds mocking those concepts? Or are these just raw frequencies?

It's David Rozado's project that he's quoting. AFAIK, no it does not control for op-eds. But even if it did I'd view that graph with a lot of suspicion generally and especially for the argument he's making. https://media-analytics.op-bit.nz/timeline

I don't think he used to be? Or, at least, maybe I didn't notice back when I was a fanboy? Mostly I think that he — like so many others — failed to realize how their position started giving impossibly powerful and biased social feedback.
